Overview The General Manager (GM) leads Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by building a high‑performing team that consistently delivers top‑line sales growth for a single retail store, including its salon. The GM is accountable for all aspects of store operations, focusing on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (standard operating procedures and compliance standards). This role requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and strong leadership skills. Principal Duties & Responsibilities Performance Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta Beauty’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omni‑channel, and retail shrink. Drive company profitability through operational excellence, top‑line sales growth, and expense control. Leverage store forecast and payroll budgets to support scheduling that maximizes productivity and meets sales and payroll goals. Address issues identified by financial and operational reporting, store visits, and audit results to achieve company goals and drive profitability. Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience. Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests. Maintain prompt, regular attendance as the GM and hold all store associates accountable to the Ulta Beauty attendance policy. People Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent, addressing staffing needs and open positions efficiently. Partner with the DM and People Success to address policy violations with appropriate corrective action, up to and including separation of employment, in accordance with Ulta Beauty’s policies. Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration, open communication, and priority alignment. Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement of associates. Lead all aspects of manager and associate development, including training, competency‑based feedback, coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and individual development plans. Participate in ongoing training—including brand and category education—to enable continuous professional development and drive sales performance. Ensure direct reports regularly participate in ongoing training to sustain professional development and sales performance. Model open communication by sharing enterprise strategy with direct reports and creating aligned goals. Promote teamwork by working alongside the management team to establish priorities and provide clear direction. Execute the Guest Engagement Leader program flawlessly, coaching associates and leading a helpful, friendly guest experience to drive business results across all Annual Performance Goal metrics. Process Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Adhere to and enforce Ulta Beauty’s dress code. Use the company’s scheduling tool to schedule the right associates, in the right places, at the right times to provide an exceptional guest experience. Use the company’s task‑management tool to prioritize store workload and ensure full leadership adoption and compliance with policy. Protect company assets and minimize loss by meeting all store standards, including workplace safety, inventory control, cash management, and loss prevention. Execute day‑to‑day inventory control processes, complete theft reporting as necessary, and handle returns and adjustments. Support continuous improvement by influencing the adoption of company initiatives and technology and communicating expectations. Utilize company programs, tools, and resources to drive store improvements. Communicate regularly with field leadership on business trends, operational challenges, merchandise needs, and the competitive landscape. Job Qualification Education Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Experience 3‑5+ years of fast‑paced, retail management or other relevant work experience. Financial management: success with driving top‑line sales, interpreting reporting data, managing payroll budgets, and controlling expense. Retail management: proven ability to monitor inventory levels, achieve operational excellence, drive a service culture, and execute merchandising directives. Leadership management: experience attracting, developing, and motivating top talent; adapting to change quickly; building collaborative relationships; and influencing teams. Skills Proficient with basic technology (e.g., POS systems, Microsoft Office, Apple devices). Excellent written and verbal communication. Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks. Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and remain flexible/adaptable. Special Position Requirements Work a flexible, full‑time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must be available to close the store at least once per week. Attend corporate business meetings and conferences, including overnight stays, and interstate travel. Maintain valid identification for airline travel. Working Conditions Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office supplies. Continuous mobility throughout the store during the shift. Frequent bending, pushing, reaching, and twisting during the shift. Frequent lifting, carrying, and/or moving up to 25 lbs. during the shift. Continuous walking, coordination, and manipulation of objects during the shift. The pay range for this position is $76,960.00 – $104,000.00 per year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits. Part‑time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
