Starting Date: Aug 4, 2026. Position Type: Full-Time. Job Description Reports to: Principal. Supersedes: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Licensure: Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a NC Teaching License in Science (Grades 9-12). Duties and Responsibilities Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson, gets the class started quickly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. Management of Student Behavior: Established rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, movement, and routine monitoring during all activities; stops inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity. Instructional Presentation: Begins lessons with a review of previous materials, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, provides examples, assigns tasks, asks appropriate questions, manages pacing, makes efficient transitions, ensures assignments are clear, and summarizes the main points. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Maintains clear standards and due dates, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral and written checks, and poses single questions. Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on in‑class work, promptly addresses out‑of‑class work, supports correct responses, and probes with more time or clues when needed. Facilitating Instruction: Has an instructional plan compatible with school and system‑wide goals, uses diagnostic information, maintains accurate records, aligns objectives, learning strategies, assessment, and student needs, and uses available resources. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly, interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, follows a professional development plan. Additional Job Functions Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Ability to use a variety of equipment, exert negligible force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, and stand or walk as required for light work. Data Conception: Ability to compare or judge characteristics of data, people, or objects. Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey information, and to receive instructions from superiors. Language Ability: Ability to read various documents, prepare correspondence and reports in a prescribed format. Intelligence: Apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and interpret technical instructions. Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate in technical or professional language. Numerical Aptitude: Use of basic arithmetic, decimals, percentages, descriptive statistics, inference, and theory. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect items for correct length, width, and shape. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handle a variety of items, with minimal coordination. Color Discrimination: Differentiate colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Adapt to stress and emergency situations. Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, and use telephone. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially in inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom; operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships as needed. Terms of Employment Term: 10 months. FLSA Status: Exempt.
