Merck

Distinguished Scientist position leading a Biomarker Center of Excellence within Merck's Translational Clinical Biomarker team. The role involves directing PhD-/MD-level scientists, developing biomarker strategies across oncology platforms from pre-FIH through Phase 3, and collaborating with cross-functional teams on translational research and clinical development initiatives.

Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional translational biomarker efforts across multiple oncology therapeutic platforms and indications
Oversee group of PhD-/MD-level scientists embedded in oncology clinical development programs
Develop clinical biomarker strategy, formulate testable hypotheses, and align development team strategy with portfolio objectives
Collaborate with experimental, bioinformatics, statistics, and clinical stakeholders to build statistical analysis plans and data communications
Engage external key opinion leaders on hypothesis-driven collaborations and drive publication of biomarker research findings

Requirements

PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with minimum 15 years oncology biomarker and translational clinical research experience
Proven leadership managing teams of PhD-/MD-level scientists with demonstrated talent development
Extensive clinical trial development and execution experience with strategic translational expertise
Deep knowledge of cancer biology, cancer immunology, and clinical oncology
Strong expertise in antibody-drug conjugates and T cell engagers
Experience with biomarker discovery, diagnostic development, and end-to-end drug development
Health authority communication experience; EU IVDR, China HGRAC, Japan PMDA knowledge preferred
