Production Operator

The Production Operator inspects and measures metal parts to ensure drilled holes meet precise distance and size specifications. This role involves using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools, performing visual inspections, and supporting general production activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect metal parts to ensure drilled holes are the correct size and at the proper distance from the end of each part.
• Use a tape measure accurately, including reading and interpreting fractional measurements, to verify part dimensions.
• Perform visual inspection of parts for defects, damage, or nonconformance to quality standards.
• Support general production tasks such as assembly, packaging, and general labor as needed.
• Operate basic manufacturing equipment and machines in accordance with safety and quality procedures.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers when required.
• Assist with machine operation and general production flow in the molding and/or vinyl departments.
• Follow quality control procedures and document inspection results when required.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety guidelines, including wearing required protective equipment.
• Be prepared to support multiple jobs, including manual machining, forklift operation, or assisting in other areas as needed.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate any issues with parts, equipment, or processes promptly.

Essential Skills

• Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure, including understanding and working with fractions.
• Previous manufacturing experience, including working on your feet for most of the day.
• Experience in general production, general labor, or similar roles in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic inspection and quality control skills, including visual inspection of parts.
• Ability to perform assembly and packaging tasks as part of the production process.
• Comfort using hand tools and power tools safely.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate production machinery and equipment.
• Willingness and ability to perform multiple job functions as needed across different areas of the facility.
• Reliability in following safety procedures and using required protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments.
• Familiarity with reading blueprints or basic part drawings.
• Experience with machine operation in a manufacturing setting.
• Forklift experience or willingness to learn forklift operation.
• Interest in growing into advanced roles such as die setter, machine setup, team lead, or supervisor.
• Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that is not climate controlled and can be hot during the summer months. The company operates three buildings, and you may work in any of them, with most work likely occurring in the main building. Production areas include molding and vinyl departments with multiple shift options, including first, second, and third shifts. The work requires standing on your feet for most of the day and performing hands-on tasks with tools, machines, and materials. Steel-toe footwear is required, and standard safety practices apply. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brighton, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.50/hr.
