The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of School Nurse within the Office of Early Childhood. Qualifications and requirements include an appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate or eligible for an Emergency license as deemed necessary by the New Jersey Department of Education, a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, and a current New Jersey registered professional nurse license issued by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing. Preferred minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a registered nurse. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak English. Spanish/Portuguese/French Creole is a plus.

Basic functions and responsibilities include developing a comprehensive health record on each new student, performing routine screenings, interpreting physical examination findings, providing emergency medical care, counseling parents, teachers and students, conducting tuberculin screening programs, reviewing medical records, providing input into health education programs, informing the child study team, assisting in planning and maintaining a safe and healthful school environment, dispensing medication, administering prescribed treatments, and performing other duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment.

Salary range: $70,000-$114,750 (plus $3,000 stipend). Employment period: Ten (10) months. Union affiliation: Newark Teachers Association (NTA).
