The Community Alamosa The City of Alamosa is in Alamosa County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 8,780 at the 2010 United States Census. The city is the commercial center of the San Luis Valley in south-central Colorado, and is the home of Adams State University. Alamosa was established in May 1878 by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and quickly became an important rail center. The railroad had an extensive construction, repair and shipping facility in Alamosa for many years and headquartered its remaining narrow gauge service here with trackage reaching many points throughout southwest Colorado and northern New Mexico. The town hosts "Summer Fest on the Rio" which occurs the first weekend in June, the Early Iron car show over the Labor Day weekend, and "Weekends on the Rio" on various Sundays throughout the summer The city takes its name from the Spanish adjective Alamosa, meaning "of cottonwood", for the cottonwood forests which grow along the Rio Grande and throughout town. Position Overview

• Obtain patient history and patient family history
• Perform quality control checks and operator maintenance for a variety of patient care equipment
• Assist in identifying patient needs and implementing the plan of care
• Document care given and patient response in the medical record
• Prepare patient for physical examination
• Communicate pertinent patient data to the appropriate provider
• Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location
• Recognize emergency situations and initiate appropriate resuscitative measures
• Carry out prescribed nurse initiated, nurse practitioner, and physician orders and document in patient medical record
• Assist in patient/family education regarding prescribed medications/therapies/diagnostic procedures
• Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient/family demonstrated level of understanding
• Assure content and correctness of a prepared report and sign document to validate its content
• Participate in monitoring quality of care according to processional standards and established procedures
• Respond to telephone inquiries regarding ward services and/or follow-up ancillary reports
• Assist with ward related administrative tasks
• Administer oxygen, intravenous fluids and prescribed medications in accordance with VA policy
• Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity, race, gender, and other individual differences in the workforce, in the Veteran population, and in the Community
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Possesses a valid, current license (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) to practice nursing as an LPN
• Licensed to practice in the State of Colorado.
• Has been actively practicing as an LPN for at least one year within the past three years.
• Is capable of providing nursing care for adult medical and surgical patient.
• Has and maintains current BCLS certification.
• Has documented training and skills verification.
• At least 1 year of experience in primary care/ambulatory care.
