Endoscopy RN

The Endoscopy RN is responsible for the provision of high-quality, customer focused, cost-effective patient care as it relates to his/her role within the Gastroenterology Service. The incumbent possesses a strong core knowledge base in nursing and has expanded clinic knowledge in gastroenterological conditions, interventional procedures, and chronic pain management. The Endoscopy RN demonstrates leadership in delivering efficient, comprehensive, and continuous patient-driven holistic care through active collaboration, communication, and coordination of resources. He/she will function as a charge nurse to assume responsibility for patient care and patients on an assigned tour of duty. The Endoscopy RN will provide specific information to help the patient/family understand pre, intra, and post-procedure activities. He/she functions as a preceptor assuming accountability and responsibility of the assigned orienteer's clinical development. The Endoscopy RN is proficient throughout all phases of the procedure within the GI/Pulmonary lab that the Veteran is undergoing. The Endoscopy RN is to perform the following responsibilities: administration of moderate sedation, performance of pre- and post- procedure patient assessments, technical assistance with endoscopic procedures, education of patient/family, care of endoscopy equipment, and appropriate documentation in the electronic record. They will provide high acuity and intensity of care requirements, e.g. liver failure.
