Patient Care Assistant

Under the supervision or direction of a shift manager, performs various duties assisting the nursing staff in the treatment and care of patients of all ages, in accordance with the established methods and procedures of the hospital.

Minimum education: high school diploma or GED. Student nurse in eighth month of an LVN program or last year of an RN program. Minimum work experience: none required. Licenses/certifications: none required. Skills, knowledge, and abilities: general knowledge of basic bedside nursing. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on the physical, psychosocial, education, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department. The skills and knowledge to provide such care is gained through education, training, and/or experience. Preferred qualification: none.

Job specific functions include demonstrating an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD compliance plan, conducting conduct that reflects HMHD's values and a commitment to HMHD's code of conduct, attending required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs, demonstrating proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program, complying with all HIPAA standards, performing routine tasks under the supervision of a licensed nurse, emptying bedpans and changing dirty linens, following proper procedures for lifting and moving patients, maintaining glucometer competency, maintaining sterile technique during sterile procedures, exemplifying spirit of excellence, referring to policies and procedures when appropriate, reporting observation of changes in patients condition promptly and accurately to caregiver or shift manager, assisting caregivers in performing routine elements of patient care and patients of all ages, performing daily assigned duties, scheduling and completing tasks within allotted time frame, being adaptable and responsive to change, knowing and following chain of command, and maintaining confidentiality of information.
