A Direct Support Worker provides care and assistance to individuals with disabilities, helping them live as independently as possible. This role focuses on supporting daily activities, promoting well-being, and encouraging community involvement. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating
- Support individuals in developing life skills (e.g., cooking, budgeting, personal hygiene)
- Administer medications as directed (if certified)
- Monitor and document client progress and behavior
- Provide emotional support and companionship
- Assist with transportation to appointments, work, or community activities
- Maintain a safe and clean environment
- Follow individualized care plans and report any concerns to supervisors
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience in caregiving, healthcare, or human services (preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, empathy, and reliability
- Ability to handle challenging behaviors calmly
- Basic computer and documentation skills
- Valid driver’s license (may be required)
- CPR and First Aid
- Medication Administration Certification (varies by state/employer)
- Residential homes, group homes, or community settings
- May require evenings, weekends, or overnight shifts
- Ability to lift and assist clients with mobility
- Standing, walking, and bending for extended periods
