Position Summary

The Minister of Music provides visionary and pastoral leadership for all aspects of the music ministry at First Calvary. This individual will cultivate a culture of worship excellence that glorifies God, edifies the congregation, and draws others to faith in Jesus Christ. The ideal candidate is a skilled musician and servant-leader who is passionate about leading God’s people in meaningful, Scripture-rooted worship and equipping others to serve.

Primary Responsibilities

Congregational Worship Leadership

•       Plan, prepare, and lead congregational singing in Sunday morning worship services and other scheduled services, ensuring a seamless, Spirit-led flow of worship.

•       Select and lead congregational music that is theologically rich, musically accessible, and consistent with the Baptist Faith & Message values.

•       Collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor in developing worship orders that complement and reinforce the preached Word.

•       Select and introduce new congregational music that is both musically accessible and doctrinally sound.

Choir and Choral Ministry

•       Recruit, direct, and shepherd the adult choir, providing weekly rehearsals that are musically productive and spiritually encouraging.

•       Oversee and develop additional choral ensembles as appropriate, which may include a men’s ensemble, women’s ensemble, handbell choir, or other specialty vocal groups.

•       Select quality choral literature appropriate for worship services, seasonal events (Christmas, Easter, etc.), and special presentations.

•       Maintain high musical standards in performance while prioritizing the spiritual growth and pastoral care of choir members.

Instrumental & Worship Team

•       Coordinate with instrumentalists and accompanists to ensure musical cohesion across all worship elements.

•       Provide direction and scheduling for vocalists and musicians serving in worship services.

•       Work with the technical and audio team to ensure quality sound reinforcement for all music ministry components.

Ministry Leadership & Administration

•       Serve as a pastoral presence within the music ministry, discipling volunteers and nurturing a community of worshipers.

•       Manage the music ministry budget responsibly, including the acquisition of music, licensing (CCLI), and equipment needs.

•       Participate in staff meetings and churchwide events.

•       Engage actively in the life of the church as a member in good standing.

Qualifications

Required

•       Committed follower of Jesus Christ with a vibrant, growing personal faith; in full agreement with the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.

•       Experience in a church music ministry role.

•       Experience leading congregational worship.

•       Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to recruit, lead, and disciple volunteers.

Character & Spiritual Qualifications

•       Exhibits the character qualifications for church leadership as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

•       Committed to the authority and sufficiency of Scripture in all matters of faith and practice.

•       A team player with a servant’s heart who supports and strengthens the overall ministry of the church.

•       Models a lifestyle of worship, prayer, and spiritual disciplines.

•       A stable and Christ-honoring family life.
