Porter

ALTBAU is a new bakery, cafe, and community space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, led by Chad Robertson, founder of Tartine Bakery, opening in Fall 2026. We're looking for reliable, motivated porters to join our opening team.

As a Porter, you’ll play an essential role in keeping our bakery, kitchens, and production spaces clean, organized, and running smoothly throughout the day. You’ll work closely with our bread, pastry, savory, and front-of-house teams to support daily operations and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient environment.

Expected Start Date: Third week of October 2026

What You'll Do

• Keep production areas, kitchens, floors, workstations, storage areas, and common spaces clean, organized, and sanitized throughout the day.
• Maintain sanitation and waste areas, including proper removal of trash and recycling.
• Receive, organize, and properly store deliveries, and restock ingredients, supplies, and packaging as needed.
• Help maintain and organize walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas.
• Support the bread, pastry, savory, and broader kitchen teams with lifting, moving supplies, basic prep, and other operational needs.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, chemical-handling, and workplace safety procedures.
• Take initiative and support the team wherever needed to keep daily operations running smoothly.

What We're Looking For

• Previous kitchen, bakery, restaurant, or porter experience is a plus, but not required.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and take pride in cleanliness and organization.
• A team-oriented attitude with a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

• $18/hour, based on experience *

This is the expected hourly range for the position. Final pay is based on experience and other job-related factors.
