RN Hospice - Weekend Program

Location: Milwaukee, WI (Field-Based) Facility: CH Hosp Milwaukee South

Role Overview

This is a field-based hospice RN role where you will provide compassionate, end-of-life care to patients in their homes and community settings.

Schedule:

• Weekend Program
• Saturday & Sunday (8:00 AM - 8:00 PM)
• No case management responsibilities

Patient Care Focus

• End-of-life hospice patients (life expectancy ? 6 months)
• Common diagnoses:
• ~40% Cancer
• ~60% Chronic/other conditions

Visit Types:

• Daily end-of-life visits
• PRN symptom management
• Occasional routine/stable visits

Workload

• 5-6 patient visits per day (8-hour equivalent)
• Field-based care across:
• Patient homes
• Assisted living facilities
• Nursing homes
• Group homes

Experience & Requirements

• Minimum 2 years RN experience (Required)
• First-time travelers accepted
• License & Certifications:
• Active RN License
• BLS

Required Skills

• IV therapy (PIV, midline, central line)
• Catheter insertion, tube feeding
• Wound care & wound vac
• Chest tube / pleurex drain care
• Strong triage & clinical judgment
• End-of-life care (pain & symptom management)
• Familiarity with opioids & dosing equivalency
• EMR documentation (EPIC preferred)
• Independent decision-making with strong communication

Facility & Work Setup

• Primarily remote/field hospice care
• Optional inpatient hospice facility:
• Aurora Zilber Family Hospice (18 beds)

Support Structure

• Hospice physician + attending physician
• Nurse educator, team lead, manager
• Office/admin support
• DME support team
• Preceptor during onboarding

Technology

• EMR: EPIC (Hyperspace/ClinDoc/Remote access)
• IV Pumps: Curlin, Alaris, PCA
• Enteral Pumps: Joey
• Medication system: Patient/caregiver managed (RN for IV/injections)

Orientation

• 1 day: Equipment & onboarding
• 2 days: EPIC training
• 3-5 shifts: Precepted field training
