Heavy Equipment MechanicA Heavy Equipment Mechanic is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs maintenance on construction vehicles and other equipment. A Mechanic typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the work flow dictates.Key DutiesAnalyze malfunctions and repairs, rebuild and maintain construction equipment, such as cranes, scrapers, asphalt and concrete paving machines, motor graders, bulldozers, loaders, pump compressors and pneumatic toolsAble to drive a one ton or larger vehicle with standard transmission.Operate and inspect machines or equipment to diagnose defects.Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.Replace defective engines and sub-assemblies such as transmissions.Weld broken parts and structural members.Must be able to read and comprehend repair manuals.Other related job functions may include, but not limited to:Examines parts for damage and/or excessive wearUsing micrometers and gauges.Tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiently.May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.May perform incidental work items included within other crafts as well as related duties.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and ExperienceThis position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Mechanic.
