About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in acute care License: Registered Nurse License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Management and placement of central venous lines. Foley catheter management. Tube feedings via NGT or PEG. Experience with arterial lines. Diabetes management and drip titration experience, preferably with Levophed, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin. Description: This position involves caring for patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, and diabetic ketoacidosis. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:3. There is a resource nurse available, staffing dependent. Charge nurses will take patient assignments. Phlebotomy services are not available on this unit. An IV/VAT team will assist with PICC/midline placement. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalist services are also available around the clock. Charting is done using the Meditech Expanse electronic medical record system. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is done via Pyxis. Travelers may float to other units as needed, including stroke and med-surg units. Schedule requires every other weekend rotation. Mandatory 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Requests for time off can be made for up to 7 days. Maximize professionalism; cell phone usage in patient care areas is prohibited. Earbuds cannot be worn, and eating at the desk is not allowed. Scrub color is pewter, with acceptable t-shirts being gray, white, or black. Jackets must be gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times. This role is for first-time travelers who have 2 years of permanent staff experience in acute care. Travelers must have been separated from permanent staff roles for 1 year.
