Instructional Designer

Under the direction of the Director of Instructional Design and Development, this position provides instructional design expertise for NOVAOnline (NOL), NOVA's distance learning program. The Instructional Designer serves as part of the instructional design team, focusing on assisting faculty in the design of online courses and instructional practices, creation of online learning resources, and piloting/implementing new technologies for teaching and learning. The Instructional Designer works with faculty to design and develop quality online courses based on sound adult learning pedagogy and instructional design practice, and supports faculty in ongoing course development, evaluation, and revision processes. The Instructional Designer provides professional development opportunities for faculty and maintains active engagement with the instructional design and online learning communities through publication, presentations, and ongoing professional development activities.

This position is eligible for telework after completion of state one-year probationary period.

Ability to deliver a positive customer service experience. Knowledge of pedagogy and best practices in teaching and learning online. Experience using a variety of technology tools to create multimedia content (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Articulate, Camtasia, Captivate, podcasting tools, Google Apps). Experience using the Canvas LMS to create, organize, and deploy instructional materials. Experience creating content for faculty and experience working with SMEs and/or faculty preferably in the higher education environment.

Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in instructional design, educational technology, or appropriately qualifying field related to the position. Experience in instructional design and designing online courses in a postsecondary setting or with/for a postsecondary institution.
