Phlebotomist

Status: Pull-time Shift: Days & Evenings - Days with occasional nights and weekends Pinckneyville Community Hospital is in operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days per year. The Laboratory Department operates on day, evening, night and weekend shifts. The Phlebotomist applicant should expect to occasionally work day, evening and weekend shifts as needed. Preferred Requirements: Completion of Phlebotomy Training Program approved by American Society of Clinical Pathologists; Phlebotomy certification in Illinois Position Purpose: Accurately draw blood samples for lab testing, perform EKGs, and collect chain of custody drug screens. Responsibilities Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies. Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods. Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids, in accordance with applicable laws, standards and policies. Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods. Data/order entry; includes medical necessity screening. Organize and clean blood-drawing trays and ensuring trays are adequately stocked and ready for use. Collect specimens on a STAT, timed and routine basis – including inpatients, outpatients, and ER patients. Perform EKGs. Collect chain of custody drug screens. Organize, stock and clean outpatient draw room. Other duties as assigned. Skills Proficiency and expertise in correctly and safely collecting blood samples. Expertise in handling blood samples. Familiarity with all blood collecting and testing equipment. Proficiency in the use of computer and telephone systems. Due to the personal nature of the job (i.e., daily interaction with patients), good communication skills and ability to multi-task are necessary. Willingness to adhere to all ethical and legal responsibilities regarding blood collection. Wage Rate Range: $16.25/HR - $27.41/HR, based on experience. #J-18808-Ljbffr
