At the Great Onyx Job Corps Center in Mammoth Cave, KY, Nurse Practitioners provide comprehensive primary care to residential students aged 16 to 24. Their core responsibilities include conducting physical exams, diagnosing acute and chronic illnesses, issuing prescriptions, supervising nursing staff, and promoting student health and wellness.

Specific roles and responsibilities at this center include:

• Clinical Assessment & Triage: Conducting initial health and physical examinations for incoming and enrolled students, diagnosing illnesses, and treating minor injuries or conditions.
• Prescriptive Authority & Care: Prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting lab tests, administering immunizations, and developing personalized treatment plans.
• Collaboration & Supervision: Collaborating with the Health and Wellness Director, physicians, mental health consultants, and dentists to ensure comprehensive care. Nurse Practitioners also directly supervise on-site Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs).
• Health Education: Providing counseling on disease prevention, healthy lifestyle choices, and self-care management.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all medical documentation is recorded accurately while maintaining strict patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
