Physician - Dermatology Section Chief

Dermatologist Position

Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVA) is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Dermatologist to serve as Section Chief of Dermatology. This is an exceptional opportunity for a physician-leader to shape the direction of a growing dermatology service while providing hands-on clinical care to the Veterans who have served our country. As Section Chief, you will lead a multidisciplinary team, drive strategic growth of the section, and ensure Veterans receive timely, high-quality dermatologic care - all while enjoying the stability, mission, and work-life balance the VA is known for.

Duties

Clinical Care

• Provide outpatient dermatologic care and inpatient/emergent consultations, including telephone and e-consults
• Perform dermatological procedures: biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and intralesional injections
• Diagnose and treat the full spectrum of adult dermatological conditions

Leadership & Administration

• Develop and implement strategic plans for the section's growth
• Oversee credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluations for direct reports
• Ensure timely completion of peer reviews, service-level reviews, and patient advocate complaints
• Coordinate daily dermatology coverage across inpatient, outpatient, and procedural services
• Serve as (or appoint) the Dermatology residency site director
• Mentor, retain, and support division staff, fostering a positive team culture
• Lead regular staff meetings on clinical policies, priorities, and goals

Collaboration

• Provide clinical supervision to medical trainees
• Partner with multidisciplinary teams and hospital leadership to meet performance measures
• Represent Dermatology in Medical Center and VISN-wide initiatives
