Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician PRN at Torrance Memorial Medical Center is responsible for supporting pharmacy operations during weekend night shifts. This role involves selecting, labeling, processing, and delivering medications, compounding preparations under pharmacist supervision, managing inventory, and maintaining accurate documentation. The position requires attention to detail, adherence to policies, strong communication, and teamwork skills in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities: Select, label, and process medication requests including floor stock, ensuring pharmacist verification before delivery. Deliver medications promptly and accurately to designated locations. Compound pharmaceutical preparations using aseptic technique under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, completing all required documentation. Prepare and deliver IVPBs, large volume IV solutions, irrigation solutions, and parenteral nutrition for adult and neonatal patients. Operate unit dose machines and automated dispensing machines (Omnicell), including generating restock lists. Fill prescriptions in compliance with State and Federal laws, complete billing, charging, and operate cash and credit card machines. Prepare paperwork and process dispensing of Controlled Substances with accuracy and compliance. Receive, stock, and shelve returned medications and new orders; maintain inventory control and stock replacement lists. Answer telephone calls professionally, providing clear communication and accurate messages. Participate in departmental and hospital performance improvement activities as appropriate. Prepare neonatal and pediatric syringes (injectable and oral) and anesthesia bags accurately. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area. Complete monthly pharmacy checks for expired medications and maintain quality control logs (temperature, hood cleaning). Perform medication cassette filling and delivery rounds for floor stock. Adhere to HIPAA compliance and uphold organizational values of service, excellence, knowledge, stability, and community. Required Skills & Certifications: Valid California Pharmacy Technician License. Minimum of 1 year of pharmacy technician experience. Knowledge of aseptic compounding techniques and medication preparation. Familiarity with controlled substance handling and related documentation. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to operate pharmacy equipment including unit dose machines and automated dispensing systems. Compliance with HIPAA and pharmacy regulatory standards. Preferred Skills & Certifications: Experience working in hospital or acute care pharmacy settings. Competency in preparing neonatal, pediatric, and adult parenteral nutrition and intravenous medications. Participation in performance improvement initiatives. Special Considerations: Must be able to work PRN during weekend night shifts (graveyard hours: 8:00pm - 4:30am). Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic hospital pharmacy environment. Strict adherence to pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance. Scheduling: PRN schedule limited to weekends nights (graveyard shift).
