Lighting Field Engineering Technician
TECO Energy
Title: Lighting Field Engineering Technician
Company: Tampa Electric Company
State and City: Florida - Tampa
Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days
POSITION CONCEPT
The Lighting Field Engineering Technician (“LFET”) supports Tampa Electric Company’s (“TEC”) lighting and distribution system design, construction, and maintenance projects. Utilizing standard company specifications and materials, LFET’s design the most electrically efficient and cost-effective outdoor lighting systems for new and existing residential and commercial customers. These designs are not limited to lighting, as they typically will also include the expansion, replacement, relocation, and maintenance of existing distribution systems required to serve the outdoor lighting system.
The LFET serves as the main point of contact to customers, governmental agencies, TEC departments and contractors, while overseeing construction and verifying that customer requirements are met throughout the project. The LFET processes work requests in TEC’s work management system (“WorkPro”), determines customer requirements, completes designs in TEC’s designing program (“Visual”) and distribution map maintenance in TEC’s geographical interface system (“GIS”), calculates estimates (“Tool Kit”) and wind loads (“Pole Foreman”), obtains necessary work permits and coordinates activities with TEC departments and contractors to ensure in the successful scheduling and completion of projects.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet with commercial and residential customers to identify all needs of construction project, load additions, schedule and other requirements.
Other requirements may include evaluating the integrity of TEC equipment using visual and physical procedures to determine if they should be replaced or upgraded. This may include accessing and inspecting energized equipment once successfully trained in this procedure.
Complete photometric designs in Visual, including acquisition of AutoCAD site plan and incorporation of various fixtures and poles as specified by the customer. Lighting designs are completed in accordance with Illumination Engineering Society of North America (“IES”) standards and under applicable governmental codes.
Process work requests (“WR”) in WorkPro. Divide jobs into work phases and crews, establishing an associated WR for each of the different TEC construction phases and crews involved, including overhead and underground line crews, service crews, grounding contractors, project and crossing conduits. Ensure proper allocation of project’s financial costs in WorkPro. Enter and update targeted schedule dates, work status and other project details in WorkPro for all associated WRs. Produce and oversee the production of construction prints and right-of-way permit drawings for Field Construction, Operations and/or contractors. Based on the scope of construction and company safety standards, determine necessity and scale of the Maintenance-of-Traffic (MOT) plan that Field Construction, Operations, and/or contractors would need for completing work in the right-of-way.
Utilize standard rules and specifications to perform analysis and design in determining the most economical and reliable solutions for customers and the TEC outdoor lighting and distribution systems. These designs should encompass the expansion, relocation, upgrade, removal and maintenance of existing distribution systems, as they pertain to lighting systems, and all other construction or maintenance needs while obtaining necessary permits and easements.
Using TEC’s GIS, draw the proposed and existing electrical features. Establish all specifications in GIS, such as the correct electrical connectivity, proper supporting structures, and all compatible units (“CU’s”) for materials and labor at the correct type and amount for each feature.
Produce construction cost estimates using Toolkit (including labor and materials) and determine and communicate the need for contribution-in-aid of construction (“CIAC”) charges to customers based on TEC revenue shortage or excess costs as required.
In advance of initiating a Bright Choices Outdoor Lighting Agreement (“BCOLA”), ensure contractual parties have signature authority to enter into a multi-year agreement with TEC using Sunbiz, LiteBiz, Property Appraiser, and State of Florida Election of Officers web site. Before project is underway, collect appropriate signatures and required CIAC.
Once the project is underway, represent customers in plan-of-the-week meetings, and manage communication to all involved entities concerning any updates in the construction schedule or other changes with potential impact and documenting updates. Coordinate the construction activities between Lighting’s Planner Scheduler and contractors.
In support of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, verify activities are coded to the correct classification and charged to the appropriate accounts.
