The 2026‑2027 School Year salary is TBD. Tigard Tualatin School District pays the 6% employee PERS contribution, upon eligibility. General Duties Summary Performs a variety of direct and indirect services to ensure provision of a free appropriate public education to students with disabilities. Works directly with students, school staff, building and district administrators to meet the educational goals of the district. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Administer criterion referenced tests for the purpose of daily tracking or programming. Design and implement educational programs that meet State and Federal law requirements. Conduct evaluations and analyze data, and participate in eligibility decision making. Design and implement behavioral and disciplinary programs. Effectively design and implement instructional programs through assistants and teachers. Schedule, coordinate, and monitor student programs. Design and implement student routines related to self‑help (feeding, toileting, mobility). Correct assignments and grade students. Consult with staff and parents on methods, materials, and IEPs. Maintain confidential files. Escort and monitor students in and out of classroom including playgrounds, cafeteria, buses, restrooms, field trips. Use basic computer software. Collect data regarding students’ goals for IEPs. Maintain records as required by the district. Complete Medicaid billing process as directed. Communicate with appropriate student age group requiring empathy and discipline. Report concerns, abuse, and infractions of student handbook policies. Follow district standards. Qualifications Experience in mentoring, cognitive coaching, or equivalent desired. Experience working with a variety of students. Experience with managerial and instructional methodologies. Good oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated leadership abilities. Understanding of current education theory, practice, and trends. Knowledge of instructional strategies. Ability to deal with students and parents in challenging circumstances. Conduct conferences and communicate with parents as necessary. Collaborate effectively with building administrators and teams. Educate staff on referral processes and IEP requirements. Maintain confidentiality, non‑preferential, non‑judgmental conduct. Develop and maintain effective working relationships. Proficient spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and sentence construction. Demonstrate effective classroom management techniques. Comply with Oregon Teacher's Standards of Competent and Ethical Performance. Show mental acuity, processing skills, and memory for deadlines and responsibilities. Teach classes following district‑approved curriculum. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Oregon Teaching License. First Aid Card (certified within first 60 days of employment). Additional certifications/training as required (e.g., blood sugar testing, bee sting emergency, dispensing prescription medication). Special education experience and preparation in desired skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the job. Language and Math Skills Read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, technical, financial, and legal documents. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, patrons, regulators, or the community. Communicate with high‑needs students in a consistent, positive, nurturing manner. Analyze and synthesize information in student reports. Work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Reasoning Ability Solve practical problems with limited standardization. Interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions. Physical and Environmental Requirements Physically active; work inside and outside, exposure to inclement weather. Normal to high noise levels; students may exhibit high‑energy or volatile behavior. Frequent exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Sensory Vision: near and far, observe students. Color discrimination. Hearing to understand speech, detect distress signals. Strength Occasional medium lifting (20‑50 lbs). Regular lifting (0‑20 lbs). Carrying of supplies and equipment. Pulling/pushing wheelchairs, doors, restraints, or equipment. Flexibility Movement in cramped spaces and repeated bending, crawling, kneeling, climbing. Coordination/Movement Upper‑body balance, hand/wrist movement; assist with balance, writing, keyboards, reaching, stretching. Chemicals/Hazards Occasional use of cleaning chemicals (e.g., bleach). Occasional use of glues. Exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Potential exposure to bees, pollen, lice. Dress Code School appropriate work dress. Adjustments for student interactions (hair up, limited jewelry, protective clothing when necessary). Evaluation Performance is evaluated per the TTEA‑OEA bargaining agreement and Board policy.
