Overview:

Our client, a Medical Center facility under the aegis of a California Public Ivy university and one of largest health delivery systems in California, seeks accomplished Accounts Payable / Financial Analyst .

Compensation: Flexible and competitive, based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and compensation expectations. The client is open to reviewing qualified candidates across a range of pay rates.

Notes:

• Hybrid role: regularly 3 days onsite with work from home on other days.
• Onsite work depends on need, such as more onsite work for training and Oracle system implementation go live.
• Potential for conversion to a full-time employee based on business needs and performance.
• Candidates should have a stable work history with longer tenures; heavily contract-based backgrounds are not preferred.
• This is not a transactional Accounts Payable Processor role; candidates should demonstrate analytical ability, critical thinking, and broader accounting exposure.
• Prioritize candidates with long-term potential and adaptability to evolving processes and systems.

Description:

• Support accounts payable functions in a complex, high-volume environment.
• Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends and support process improvements.
• Work independently while understanding end-to-end financial processes.
• Partner with finance, procurement, operational teams, departmental users, and vendors.
• Manage high volumes of invoices and ensure timely payment processing.
• Obtain approvals for invoices and verify budget and policy compliance.
• Process and code invoices and credit memos.
• Research, identify, and resolve complex invoice issues, including electronic and unpaid invoices.
• Assist with management of AP-related documentation.
• Assess sales and use tax requirements on invoices.
• Identify transactions subject to 1099 reporting requirements.
• Provide guidance on procure-to-pay policies and procedures.
• Review and approve payment requests according to policy requirements and documentation standards.
• Ensure work queues are managed within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Create, run, and analyze departmental, operational, critical daily, and ad hoc reports.
• Deliver excellent customer service to departmental users and vendors.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to support financial operations and process improvements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience in a hospital, university, or similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of the full Accounts Payable lifecycle, including invoice processing, coding, payment processing, vendor issue resolution, and procure-to-pay compliance.
• Experience beyond basic invoice processing, including reconciliations, reporting, analysis, or process improvement.
• Proficiency with online Accounts Payable systems or large ERP platforms.
• Proficient in Excel with the ability to manage large data sets and reporting.
• Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to understand complex processes and work independently.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with internal teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong reading comprehension skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact.
• Quick learner with the ability to become proficient rapidly in new systems and processes.

Nice to haves:

• Oracle Financials Cloud (Oracle Fusion Cloud) experience.
• GHX system experience.
• Accounting or Financial Analyst background.
• Experience supporting complex financial processes beyond transactional accounts payable functions.
