Registered Nurse (RN) - Staffing Office/Float Pool, (Cardiac/PCU/Stepdown) PRN, Days

Responsibilities Directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients based on established clinical practice standards. Collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supporting the organization’s vision, mission, and values. Utilizing knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Providing competent, compassionate patient- and family-centered nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of the nursing process and interdisciplinary teamwork. Demonstrating the Caring Theory principles and providing and maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients and families. Articulating the professional nursing role to the patient, family, and health team members. Identifying, facilitating, and evaluating outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of patients. Demonstrating critical thinking in the provision and coordination of patient care. Directing the coordination of care across settings and among caregivers, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel in any assigned or delegated tasks. Coordinating involvement of the patient, family, and health team members in patient care, including patient/family teaching and discharge planning. Communicating and coordinating the plan of care and other pertinent information to/from other health care team members. Promoting continuity of care through effective hand-offs. Helping define standards of excellence for patient care; participating in improvement of patient care services in a cost‑effective way. Providing care appropriate to age group of patients and specific functions on assigned unit(s) as described in the unit’s Scope of Service. Participating in, contributing to and integrating performance improvement into care delivery and participating in quality improvement activities. Exhibiting compliance with regulatory and quality and safety requirements. Collaborating with other professionals and directing nonprofessional nursing personnel in maintaining recognized standards. Participating in the orientation of new permanent and temporary staff members. Appropriately utilizing nursing resources. Interpreting hospital and departmental policies and procedures to nurses and other health team members. Participating in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment. Providing input to the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs. Participating in unit, departmental, and hospital committees for formulation of nursing and hospital policies and procedures. Performing other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Constant (67–100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands. Frequent (34–66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. Ability to lift 35 lbs. Ability to push and pull 20 lbs. Auditory and visual skills to include color determination. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to reach above/overhead. Mental Requirements Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi‑task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Clinical positions at Mary Washington Home Health and/or Hospice must also meet driving requirements.
