Central Processing Technician

Overview Disassembles, cleans, assembles, sterilizes, and stores procedure trays, instruments, equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedures and aseptic technique under direct supervision. Completes requests to dispense equipment and supplies and assists in maintaining and processing patient charge records and maintaining department inventory. Responsibilities Operates autoclaves by loading equipment, setting controls to specified time and temperature, and verifying appropriate sterilization cycles using the autoclave graph. Creates and maintains sterilization records for inspection. Assembles procedure trays and packs instruments according to prescribed count sheets. Wraps and handles packages for sterilization following the established procedure. Communicates with supervisors regarding unavailable parts or deficient equipment to maintain accurate count sheets. Dispenses sterile and non‑sterile equipment and supplies per department requests. Disassembles, cleans, reassembles, and tests portable equipment using approved disinfectants, detergents, soaps, and cleaners. Assists in orienting new employees to each work assignment area and overall department operations. Performs all duties in accordance with the C‑I‑CARE Standards of the Hospital. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. 1+ year to 2 years of applicable experience. Completion of Central Service Technician training. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic computer skills. Strong time management and organizational skills. Knowledge of Quality Assurance, Safety and Infection Control guidelines. Strong attention to detail. Command of the English language – reading, writing and speaking. Strong interpersonal skills. Licenses and Certifications Current American Heart Association Certification for Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) – preferred. Pay Generally starting at $31.94 – $41.20 per hour.
