About the Role As a Residential HVAC Maintenance Technician (Junior Technician) , your primary purpose is to perform thorough preventative maintenance, conduct initial diagnostic evaluations, and keep residential heating and cooling systems running at peak efficiency. You are the frontline guardian of homeowner comfort and key to building "clients for life." By following our systematic processes and offering honest, transparent recommendations, you protect homeowners from costly system failures and represent the core values of our brand in the field. What's In It for You Base Hourly Rate: Earn $21.00 – $25.00 per hour, directly reflecting your experience level and technical foundation. On-Target Earnings (OTE): Realistic annual earnings path of $50,000 – $65,000+ through competitive base pay combined with performance incentives. Overtime Pay: Paid overtime (1.5x) for all hours worked over 40 hours per week. Performance Incentives & Commissions: Earn a 3% commission on sold estimates, $50 bonuses per piece of equipment sold, and progressive commission tiers reaching up to ~4% as your technical capability advances. Tool Credit Allowance: Earn dedicated tool credits as a reward for collecting positive 5-star Google customer reviews. Paid Time Off (PTO): 40 hours of PTO in Year 1, increasing to 80 hours starting in Year 3. PTO accrues throughout the year and can be used as it accrues, with additional unpaid time off available as needed. Healthcare: Medical Year-Round Hours & Job Stability: Guaranteed, steady year-round work with no winter layoffs. Core Responsibilities Perform detailed preventative maintenance checkups on residential split systems, heat pumps, mini-splits, and communicating systems. Follow Southern Comfort Mechanical's standard customer service process on every call: put on shoe covers before entering, make a professional introduction, complete comprehensive forms, and take photos of equipment conditions. Execute systematic root-cause diagnostics on electrical and mechanical components when encountering non-operational systems. Utilize modern tablet software (such as ServiceTitan) and AI tools to streamline administrative tasks and create clear invoice summaries for homeowners. Clearly explain system conditions and present repair or replacement choices to clients in an informative, zero-pressure manner. Participate actively in shop training on test units alongside lead technicians to master advanced diagnostic techniques. Assist fellow team members in the field when calls run complex, ensuring all company calls are completed safely and thoroughly. Required & Preferred Experience Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years (at least two full summer seasons) of active, hands-on experience in residential HVAC maintenance or apprentice service. Certifications: Active EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal required). Licensing: Ability to obtain TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation) ACR Technician Registration. Driver's License: Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean, safe driving record. Technical Baseline: Fundamental understanding of electrical components, run capacitors, refrigerant pressure evaluations, airflow concepts, and heat pump sequence of operation. Tools & Software: Comfort using field software (ServiceTitan or similar) on modern mobile devices/tablets, and possession of basic personal hand tools required for HVAC service work. References: Must provide two professional references who can verify your reliability, drive, and work ethic.
