We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to support a finance team through a long-term contract assignment in Gainesville, Florida. This role is well suited for someone with strong attention to detail who can manage core close activities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to reliable financial reporting across multiple entities. The position requires someone who is comfortable working independently, asking thoughtful questions, and providing strong support in audit and grant-related accounting work.

Responsibilities:

• Lead recurring month-end close activities to help ensure timely and accurate financial results

• Record journal entries, including accruals and allocation adjustments, with strong attention to accuracy and supporting documentation

• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain the integrity of the general ledger

• Prepare grant spending schedules and related accounting support to assist with compliance and reporting needs

• Organize and maintain accounting workpapers that support financial records, reconciliations, and close deliverables

• Assist with audit readiness by gathering schedules, documentation, and other materials requested during audit preparation

• Contribute to internal and external financial reporting by compiling accurate accounting data and supporting analyses

• Provide accounting support across multiple entities while following established controls and approval limitations

• Partner with internal team members to learn account coding practices, office workflows, and existing finance processes during leadership transition support

• 7+ years of accounting experience in a primary accounting role

• Ability to to support a finance team through a long-term contract assignment in Gainesville, Florida

• Background in nonprofit and fund accounting environments

• Hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger activity, and journal entry preparation

• Knowledge of grant accounting and audit support processes

• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and strong working skills in Microsoft Excel and Outlook

• High accuracy in data entry and bookkeeping tasks, including full-charge bookkeeping responsibilities

• Familiarity with bill.com, sales tax, corporate tax, or related accounting functions is beneficial

• Ability to work independently in a hybrid schedule and communicate proactively when clarification is needed
