Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Power Project Manager to own the execution of medium-voltage electrical power projects from order entry and project kickoff through engineering, submittals, manufacturing, testing, delivery, commissioning, startup, and final customer acceptance .
This role is a key driver of project execution and customer satisfaction, serving as the primary customer-facing point of contact while coordinating closely with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Field Service, Customer Service, and Finance . The Project Manager will ensure projects are executed on schedule, within scope and budget, and in compliance with technical, quality, and customer requirements.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing complex, engineered-to-order electrical power projects involving medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, substations, protective relaying systems, utility interconnections, power distribution equipment, and mission-critical electrical infrastructure . This individual must be comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining strong customer relationships, identifying execution risks, and driving accountability across cross-functional teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Project Leadership & End-to-End Execution
- Own end-to-end project execution from order entry, engineering and submittals through manufacturing, testing, delivery, startup, commissioning, and closeout .
- Develop and maintain standardized project plans, execution strategies, milestone schedules, communication cadences, and project playbooks.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestone tracking, procurement timelines, manufacturing schedules, and delivery plans.
- Coordinate activities between Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Field Service, logistics, utilities, contractors, and customers.
- Lead project kickoff meetings and establish clear communication channels, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Maintain schedule fidelity and proactively identify risks that could impact project delivery, cost, quality, or customer commitments.
- Develop and implement mitigation and recovery strategies when projects experience schedule, procurement, engineering, manufacturing, or field-execution issues.
- Manage project deliverables, schedules, budgets, resources, and customer commitments.
- Oversee project documentation including submittals, manufacturing drawings, specifications, equipment schedules, testing reports, revisions, and turnover documentation .
- Coordinate factory visits, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), startup, commissioning, and final turnover activities.
- Participate in job site visits, key customer presentations, testing, factory visits, and customer engagements as required.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the central point of coordination between Sales, Business Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Field Service, and Finance .
- Ensure seamless handoffs from sales through project execution and final delivery.
- Partner with Sales and Business Development to ensure customer commitments are operationally feasible and aligned with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and delivery capabilities.
- Coordinate engineering releases, procurement readiness, manufacturing progress, testing, logistics, and field activities against the overall project schedule.
- Identify bottlenecks and execution gaps early and drive resolution with the appropriate functional teams.
- Implement structured forecasting and reporting for project timelines, fulfillment readiness, manufacturing status, delivery performance, and overall project health.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary customer contact throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide best-in-class communication and organization for project updates, milestone reviews, technical issues, and escalation matters.
- Lead regular project update meetings with customers, contractors, consulting engineers, utilities, and internal teams.
- Build and maintain long-term customer relationships through responsive communication, organization, and proactive issue resolution.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for major customer issues during active project execution.
- Ensure customer expectations remain aligned with actual engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and delivery status.
- Support submittal reviews, change orders, technical considerations, and customer decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
Technical Project Management
Support projects involving:
- Medium Voltage Switchgear
- Power Transformers
- Unit Substations
- Protective Relays
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Utility Distribution Systems
- Backup Power Systems
- Electrical Distribution Equipment
- Renewable Energy Interconnections
- Data Center Power Infrastructure
Additional responsibilities include:
- Review technical specifications, electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, equipment submittals, manufacturing drawings, and project documentation.
- Coordinate with engineering teams regarding equipment modifications, technical issues, revisions, and customer requirements.
- Ensure project deliverables meet contractual, technical, quality, and customer requirements.
- Coordinate technical issues between customers, engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and field personnel.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
Procurement, Manufacturing & Delivery
- Coordinate procurement and manufacturing activities to maintain project schedules and customer delivery commitments.
- Monitor long-lead equipment and material requirements and identify potential impacts to project schedules.
- Work closely with Supply Chain and Operations to track material availability, manufacturing progress, testing, logistics, and delivery readiness.
- Maintain visibility into project fulfillment status and proactively escalate risks affecting delivery.
- Coordinate factory testing, inspections, customer witness testing, shipment, site delivery, and startup requirements.
Commercial & Financial Management
- Own project financial performance following project award and support overall margin objectives.
- Monitor project costs, profitability, resource requirements, billing milestones, cash flow, and revenue forecasts.
- Manage project scope changes, change orders, schedule impacts, and customer requests.
- Ensure disciplined scope management and appropriate documentation of changes.
- Provide executive-level reporting on project portfolio health, financial performance, risks, schedule status, and delivery trends.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Drive consistent project management processes and execution standards across projects.
- Develop and improve project management tools, reporting structures, communication protocols, and execution processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to eliminate inefficiencies, reduce delays, improve forecasting, and strengthen operational predictability.
- Support resource planning and workload forecasting.
- Mentor junior project managers and project coordinators as appropriate.
- Help establish scalable processes that support a growing project portfolio and engineered-to-order manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, Operations, or a related discipline preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience will be considered.
- PMP or MBA is a plus.
Experience
- 5+ years of project, program, or operations leadership experience in manufacturing, industrial equipment, electrical products, engineered-to-order environments, utilities, electrical power systems, or related industries.
- Experience managing complex, multi-unit, multi-month projects with strict delivery deadlines.
- Experience coordinating engineering, procurement, manufacturing, testing, delivery, construction, commissioning, or startup activities.
- Experience managing projects involving medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, substations, power distribution systems, or utility infrastructure preferred.
- Experience in utility, industrial, data center, renewable energy, mission-critical, or heavy commercial power projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing and fulfillment processes, supply chain fundamentals, and cross-functional project execution.
Technical & Business Skills
- Strong understanding of medium-voltage electrical systems and power distribution infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret electrical one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, engineering drawings, and construction documents.
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, and utility standards.
- Knowledge of electrical testing, commissioning, startup, and energization procedures.
- Strong understanding of ERP/CRM workflows, project scheduling, procurement, manufacturing, and fulfillment processes .
- Strong project scheduling, risk management, forecasting, and customer coordination skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ERP systems, CRM platforms, and project management software.
- Exceptional communication, organization, leadership, and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to influence stakeholders across multiple departments and organizational levels.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while balancing strategic planning with hands-on project execution.
Travel
- Travel as required, generally less than 10% , including customer visits, factory visits, testing, presentations, and job site activities.
