CNC Machinist (Manual & CNC Programmer)Location: Newport News, VAEmployment Type: Full-TimePosition OverviewA local machine and fabrication shop has an immediate opening for a combination Manual/ CNC Machinist. This position supports machining and fabrication operations by operating manual and CNC equipment, programming as needed, and producing precision components from customer-furnished drawings. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced shop environment.Key ResponsibilitiesMachining & SetupSet up and operate manual mills, lathes, drill presses, and grindersSet up and operate various CNC machinesInterpret and machine parts from customer-furnished drawings and blueprintsSelect proper tooling, speeds, feeds, and cutting parameters for various metalsMachine parts to close tolerances while maintaining high quality standardsPerform first-piece inspections and in-process checksCreate and machine simple fixtures if needed to complete a machining operationCNC ProgrammingCreate, edit, and optimize CNC programs as requiredProgram at the machine when applicableAdjust programs to maintain tolerance and improve production efficiencyTroubleshoot programming errors and machining inconsistenciesQuality & MaintenanceInspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision instrumentsMaintain accurate production and quality documentationPerform routine preventive maintenance on machinesTroubleshoot mechanical or tooling issuesFollow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work areaQualificationsMinimum 2+ years of experience operating manual and CNC machining equipmentAbility to read and interpret customer-furnished drawings and blueprintsExperience writing and editing CNC programs preferredStrong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materialsProficient in precision measurement toolsStrong mathematical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work overtime and weekends as neededHigh attention to detail and strong commitment to safetyAbility to machine from raw materials as well as Fabricated Weldments.
