Job Description Interventional radiologic technologist assists physicians with image guided minimally invasive procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Providing the highest quality of care, they treat an ever-widening range of conditions inside the body from outside the body by inserting various small instruments or tools, such as catheters or wires, with the use of various x-ray and imaging techniques (i.e., CT scanners, MRI scanners, ultrasound scanners). The technologist is responsible for maintaining sterile technique, operation of equipment, quality assurance of imaging and compassionate patient care. Our Interventional Radiology department is at the forefront of innovation and new technologies, offering an alternative to the surgical treatment of many conditions and can eliminate the need for hospitalization, in some cases. Hours Per Week: 40 Scheduled Work Hours/Shift : Day Shift: Rotating 4-10 hour shifts per week (7:30 am–6:00 pm); minimal call requirements Role : The Interventional Radiology Technologist reports directly to the Vascular and Interventional Radiology RT Supervisor. The IR Technologist will work alongside the Interventional Radiologist and RN to assist in the performance of diagnostic angiographic procedures as well as complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. They are responsible for obtaining all equipment needed for a procedure, positioning and imaging patients, resolving equipment issues, and demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies, and equipment operation to include fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and ancillary therapeutic devices. The IR technologist must prepare, administer, and document contrast given throughout procedures. They validate a patient’s clinical history with the procedure and ensure information is documented and available for clinician use. They provide patient care, communication, assessment, and monitoring. They post-process digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring technical quality and proper identification. Periodic weekend and off-hour call will be required. Education : Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology. Experience : At least 1 year of X-Ray experience. Required Registration/Certification Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (R), required. Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA-recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider Physical Requirements : Ability to perform job functions while standing (Frequent), sitting (Frequent), walking (Frequent), climbing stairs (Infrequent), work indoors (Continuous), work from elevated areas (Frequent), work in confined/cramped spaces (Infrequent), kneeling positions (Infrequent), bending (Frequent), squatting (Infrequent), repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (Frequent), reach in all directions (Frequent), finger dexterity (Continuous), fully use both legs/hands/arms (Continuous), lift and carry 15 lbs unassisted (Infrequent), lift/lower objects 15 lbs from/to floor to 36 inches unassisted (Infrequent), lift from 36 inches to overhead 15 lbs (Infrequent), maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or both eyes (Continuous), see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance (Continuous), color discrimination (Continuous), depth perception (Continuous), maintain hearing acuity with correction (Continuous), perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous), work in a latex-safe environment (Continuous).
