Position Overview
Atascosa Trauma, Stress, and Anxiety Center is actively seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to join our team. This is a full-time position offering the flexibility of remote work while serving clients primarily through telehealth along with some in-person sessions at our outpatient office located in Valley Stream, New York. Our focus is on helping individuals overcome challenges related to trauma, stress, and anxiety, making your role critical to patient recovery and well-being.

Work Environment

The center operates from 7 AM to 10 PM seven days a week, providing flexible scheduling to accommodate the diverse needs of our clients and staff. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments to identify trauma histories and formulate tailored treatment plans aimed at recovery and resilience.
- Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including but not limited to Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
- Deliver both individual and group therapy sessions, facilitating discussions that help clients unpack their experiences and cultivate effective coping strategies.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists and a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, ensuring an integrated approach to each patient’s treatment plan.
- Provide crisis intervention and immediate support during high-stress situations related to trauma, ensuring client safety and emotional stabilization.
- Educate clients and their families on trauma responses and available coping mechanisms, enhancing their understanding and management of their mental health.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential documentation to meet legal and ethical standards, ensuring the integrity of patient records.
- Participate in regular case consultations and team meetings, contributing to continuous improvement in trauma-informed care practices.
- Stay informed of the latest research and therapeutic techniques within trauma therapy to ensure the highest quality of care.
Patient Population / Client Focus
Your primary focus will be on clients dealing with trauma, stress reactions, and anxiety-related disorders. This role involves working with a diverse demographic, including individuals from varying backgrounds with distinct challenges. Your empathetic approach and clinical skills will play a crucial role in helping clients navigate their therapeutic journey.
Qualifications
- Master's or doctoral degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited program.
- Current and active licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York State.
- Strong understanding of trauma-related disorders and trauma-informed practices.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to care.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and relevant computer applications.
Preferred Experience
- A minimum of two years of post-licensure experience is preferred.
- Experience delivering trauma-focused therapies and engaging with clients in both individual and group settings.
- A strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Ability to engage clients in couple therapy is a plus; training will be provided.
Compensation and Benefits
The position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from USD 70,000 to 110,000, based on experience and qualifications.
