This role supports Battelle's Applied Science and Technology group, where our team is involved in the conceptual design, development, and manufacturing of armored commercial vehicles and other prototype work. The selected candidate will perform inspection of complex fabricated parts and assemblies, support quality engineering activities, and help drive continuous improvement across safety, efficiency, and quality.As a QA Inspector, the selected individual will perform hands-on quality inspections and support quality engineering functions across a dynamic defense manufacturing environment. Responsibilities may include:Performing inspection of complex fabricated parts using hand tools such as calipers, height gauges, tape measures, micrometers, and angle gaugesInspecting welded parts to defined quality standards and performing in-process and final visual and functional inspections of productsDeveloping inspection instructions for complex fabricated parts and assemblies with input from engineeringMentoring other QA staff in inspection techniques and proceduresReporting on quality trends to engineering to ensure containment and recommending corrective measures as appropriateSupporting quality engineering in investigating supplier and assembly issues and recommending corrective measuresIdentifying and supporting implementation of improvements to safety, efficiency, and qualityRecording and recommending preliminary disposition of nonconforming material in an electronic systemSupporting additional program activities such as the calibration program, internal audits, and safety programMaintaining inspection records for review and operating under general guidance from managementKey qualifications include:Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related fieldMinimum of 5 years of experience with quality inspection of complex fabricated partsDemonstrated ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings, inspection procedures, and work instructionsWorking knowledge of measurement methodologies and techniques, including the use of fixtures and measurement tools to set up parts and perform inspectionsExperience using an electronic enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to transact materials into and out of Quality and to research part status inquiriesBasic computer skills including Microsoft Office suiteStrong attention to detail with excellent oral and written communication skillsMust be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US government security clearancePreferred qualifications include:Prior experience working in an ISO 9001 quality production environmentExperience working within the US military or US defense contractor environmentExperience with and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)ASQ Certified Quality Inspector credentialExperience using a FARO arm to perform inspectionsCompensation data:Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $50,000 – $65,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
