Customs Specialist

What Does a Customs Specialist Do? Responsible for executing the import of tax paid and tax suspended cargo, admissions into the Foreign Trade Zone, and various other import and export related processes. Ensure compliance with domestic and international laws and facilitate the smooth transit of goods across borders. Responsibilities Compliance: Ensure all import, export and Foreign Trade Zone activities comply with applicable laws and CBP & FDA regulations. Documentation: Prepare and submit accurate & timely documentation required for the clearance of goods through customs; file Importer Security Filings (ISF) for ocean imports. Classification: Classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and determine appropriate duty rates. Consultation: Provide guidance on customs requirements, tariffs, shipping restrictions, and other trade‑related matters. Record Keeping: Maintain organized records to support CBP audits, FTZ compliance reviews, and internal controls. Auditing: Conduct internal audits of customs entries and processes to ensure accuracy and compliance; identify discrepancies and raise compliance concerns. Communication: Liaise with customs officials, shipping companies, and clients to resolve any issues that may arise during the clearance process. Foreign Trade Zone Transactions: Prepare, monitor and record all U.S. Customs Foreign Trade Zone transactions including inventory control, admissions (CBPF214), and zone transfers. Duty and Tariff Calculation: Calculate duty and tariff payments owed on shipments and validate brokerage accounts and payments. Software Maintenance: Ensure Bacardi’s Customs Software is maintained with accurate Master Data Information, CBMA, MID Codes and Customer information. Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Minimum 3 years of supply chain experience, ideally in Import/Export or related field. Supply chain knowledge and analytical ability to identify anomalies, trends, and resourcefulness to problem‑solve exceptions. Proficiency with Automated Commercial Environment (ACE), customs records databases, Integration Point (One Source) and EditTrade. Advanced Excel skills (heavy use of PivotTables) and experience with SAP. Understanding of warehouse processes. Ability to maintain accurate and efficient filing systems and logs. Working knowledge of various customs forms (CF214, CF215, CF216, CF7512, CF3461, CF7501, CF349).
