Job Description

Melissa Memorial Hospital is seeking a Maintenance Technician II to support the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of hospital facilities and grounds. This role is vital to maintaining a safe environment of care for patients, staff, visitors, and providers.

This role requires teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks across multiple maintenance disciplines. The Maintenance Technician is expected to pursue continuous learning and actively contribute to MMH's mission of delivering efficient, high quality healthcare to our community.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, maintaining, repairing, and improving hospital facilities, equipment, and systems. This position requires working knowledge of building services, construction practices, and general maintenance processes in a healthcare environment, as well as the ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.

The Maintenance Technician must demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, reliability, and integrity; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and utilize basic computer systems for documentation and work management.

Maintenance II will be determined based on experience, qualifications, demonstrated skills, and competencies.

Essential Duties:

  • Operate, maintain, and repair hospital equipment, buildings, grounds, and systems to ensure a safe and compliant environment of care.
  • Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair work, including but not limited to:
    • HVAC systems
    • Plumbing and fixtures
    • Electrical systems and lighting
    • Carpentry and building finishes
    • Motors, pumps, and mechanical systems
    • Flooring, walls, doors, and window coverings
    • Perform groundskeeping duties including lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal unless otherwise contracted.
    • Accurately document work performed, inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
    • Adhere to applicable safety standards, trade practices, building codes, and hospital policies.
    • Access rooftops, basements, equipment rooms, tunnels, crawl spaces, and other confined or minimally accessible areas as required.
    • Respond to facility emergencies (e.g., system failures, fire, floods) to minimize disruption to patient care and prevent facility damage.
    • Coordinate work with external vendors and contractors when necessary and recommend equipment repair or replacement.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving ability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Foster positive working relationships with clinical and non clinical staff and represent the hospital in a professional manner.
    • Anticipate potential facility issues and address them proactively.
    • Safely lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon MMH needs or requirements.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Highschool or GED
  • Demonstrated experience performing maintenance work across multiple trades.
  • Ability to independently complete routine and non routine repairs.

Preferred:

  • Experience/Certifications in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, equipment maintenance, and system troubleshooting.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Ability to use basic computer applications (email, calendars, documentation systems).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties.
  • Strong judgment, initiative, dependability, and reliability.

Melissa Memorial Hospital: Melissa Memorial Hospital is a 15-bed critical access hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado. While being "rural" we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.

Holyoke is home to the Holyoke Dragons and is truly a "City of Pride and Progress." Holyoke offers: From different coffee shops to different ethnic flavors, to a quick bite, the sweet small town of Holyoke has a handful of different restaurant options to choose from.
