Assistant Patient Care Technician (CNA Preferred)

General Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Assistant Patient Care Technician provides direct patient care to support the health and comfort of patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes.
• Perform basic patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Work collaboratively with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly and enhance the overall patient experience.
• Accurately document all patient care activities to support clinical decision-making.
• Communicate relevant patient information to healthcare team members to improve outcomes and quality of care.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

One year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred but not required.

Certification/License

For those without certification and less than one year of experience, attendance at a Patient Care Assistant training academy is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, stooping, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is possible. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
