Expertise is required in the specific area of hand surgery, with a focus on microsurgery. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D.or equivalent degree. They must also be certified by the AmericanBoard of Orthopedic Surgery or eligible for such certification. Completion of an accredited hand fellowship is required. Teaching responsibilities may include clinical and didacticinstruction of medical students, orthopedic surgery residents, andhand fellows. Clinical responsibilities may include building a practice in hand surgery, with additional duties in orthopedic surgery depending oncandidate training. Research or scholarship responsibilities may include clinical and/or basic science investigations in the field of orthopedicsurgery and, specifically, hand surgery.
