Location: MDH - Kent County Health Department, 125 S. Lynchburg Street, Chestertown, MD 21620 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this part‑time contractual position is to assist in implementing prescribed activity therapy and therapeutic recreation programs for participants enrolled in the Medical Adult Day Care (MADC) program. This role provides structured therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and wellness activities designed to promote participant independence, cognitive stimulation, physical functioning, emotional well‑being, and social engagement. The position also assists with participant observations, documentation, and activity‑related assessments under the supervision of the MADC Director and other healthcare professionals to support the Kent County Health Department's mission of providing quality community‑based services to adults with medical, physical, cognitive, and behavioral health needs. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional, including patient/client assessments for patients/clients with behavioral health diagnoses, age‑related conditions, physical illnesses, disabilities, or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Candidate may substitute completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education or behavioral sciences for the required experience. Candidate may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service as a non‑commissioned officer in therapy‑related classifications for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications Must possess a valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license if duties require operation of a motor vehicle. May require a Class “C” motor vehicle operator’s license in some positions. Must successfully complete and maintain current CPR certification. May need Red Cross Life Saving and Water Safety certification for facilities with a swimming pool. Special Requirements Employees must provide a reachable telephone number for call‑in duties. Benefits Eligible for subsidized health benefits if contracted for 30+ hours per week (or an average of 130 hours per month). Contractual employee pays 25% of premiums for medical and prescription coverage; the State of Maryland subsidizes 75%. Optional dental, accidental death, and life insurance available; employee pays full premium. Leave may be granted at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
