Under general supervision, performs general duty police work involving a wide range of duties performed to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and preserve order within the community. May be assigned to specialized duties at the discretion of management. Based on the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description, this position is considered safety sensitive.

Essential job functions include inspecting the assigned patrol vehicle, operating the patrol vehicle in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, patrolling assigned areas to enforce all federal, state and local laws, directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, investigating traffic accidents, enforcing all applicable City, local, state and federal laws, testifying in a courtroom setting, securing and protecting the scene of a crime, making arrests, conducting stop and frisk searches, searching movable vehicles and premises, planning methods and procedures for conducting a search, removing weapons from armed persons, advising victims or other involved persons of their rights, confiscating property for evidence, coordinating with school teachers and counselors, maintaining and inspecting issued equipment, identifying, confiscating, preserving, and maintaining the chain of custody of all evidence, communicating over police radio, assisting in the evacuation or rescue of persons and property in emergency situations, advising all parties involved in domestic disputes, speaking with citizens to establish rapport and trust, maintaining and organizing field notes, obtaining information on persons or property involved in a crime, attending in-service and specialized training, performing duties associated with specialized assignments, and performing other related duties as assigned. Material and equipment used include non-lethal weapons, two-way radio, computer restraint devices, and vehicle.

Minimum qualifications required include a high school diploma or GED, no prior experience or training is required, a state certified police officer license, a valid state driver's license, and being 21-45 years of age according to state statute.

Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, judicial system, operation and procedures for criminal prosecution, laws pertaining to citizen disputes and domestic violence, laws pertaining to the issuance of valid arrest or search warrants, legal limitations of police officer's authority, recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques, correct English usage, standard business arithmetic, first aid procedures and equipment, suspect/victim/witness interview and interrogation concepts, departmental policies and standard operating procedures, public relations techniques, crime scene processing procedures, crime prevention techniques, defensive tactics, proper arrest and suspect apprehension techniques, crime patterns, potential problem areas, prior offenders, all computer applications and hardware, and modern procedures, practices, and methods of police administration.
