Summary of Job Purpose

 

 

The Junior Instructor is an important part of making the child’s experience a positive one at Dodge Ridge. Anyone working as a Junior Instructor must possess compassion and understanding for children and endless enthusiasm. This position is responsible for assisting in a variety of jobs in Children’s Lessons, from set-up and tear down of the teaching area, greeting and checking in kids for their lessons on the snow, assisting Instructors in beginning lessons, assisting with loading and unloading the carpets and assisting with supervision of our young guests. Ultimately, this position gives the training and knowledge needed to become an instructor. 

 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate an on-going commitment to delivering excellent customer service. This involves interacting with guests in a courteous manner and being able to answer questions professionally.
• Demonstrate an interest in improving your riding/skiing skills.
• Meet daily with your supervisor to receive your assignment and duties for the day.
• It is important to note that the position of a Junior Instructor involves a considerable amount of walking and time spent on the snow (you must provide your own waterproof boots).
• Assist children with boot/helmet fitting and ski sizing.
• Escort and monitor children needing to use the restroom.
• Assist instructors on and off the snow by helping lessons with students that require extra attention and move students to different classes when necessary.
• Assist with start-of-day set-up and end-of-day clean up.
• Supervise children who are waiting for parents to pick them up or taking a break from their lessons.

 

 

Job Qualifications

 

 

• Ability to work with children 4 to 12 years of age.
• Have compassion, patients and understanding for children.
• Enjoy snowsports activities and desire to share your enthusiasm.
• Good physical conditioning, including flexibility, strength and endurance.
• Be safety and risk minded. 
• Willingness to continually learn and update knowledge of child development and communication with children.
• Strong and professional communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
• Neatly groomed, leading to a professional over all appearance.
• Ability to move from task to task, be flexible and take direction.

Work Schedules

 

 

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.

 

When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods, you may be expected to work six (6) days a week.

 

You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.

Note: The above “Work Schedules” will not apply to employees 18 years and younger due to 40 hours work week laws for minors

 

 

 

Working Conditions

 

 

At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.

 

 

Uniforms

 

 

A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job, as listed below. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift.
