Job Description - LVN - Urology Clinic - Ft. Worth (931292) The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will work under the general supervision of a physician, advanced practice provider and/or nursing leadership to provide experienced para‑professional nursing skills in the treatment, care and safety of patients within the Urology Clinic. Licenses and Certifications: LVN license from the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (upon hire); BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) (upon hire). Preferred Experience: 1 year experience in a clinical setting. Job Duties Administers personal and therapeutic measures to patients as directed by physicians and/or registered nurses. Obtains medical history from patients through structured interviews in accordance with departmental guidelines. Schedules patients’ appointments, tests and procedures via an online computer system or telephone, and reinforces physician instructions in person and through telephone contact. Assists in the care of patients by preparing exam rooms, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment and ensuring availability of needed patient information. Prepares and administers medications as prescribed by the physician; may start and administer intravenous fluids and medications after completion of the UT Southwestern IV course and skills verification (excluding IV push medications). Collects information and data that assist the physician or registered nurse in triaging patient phone calls following departmental protocols and documents actions in the electronic medical record. Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical equipment; performs low‑complexity procedures such as serial specimen samples, drawing blood from heparin lock, venipuncture and specimen collection and handling. Documents patient care interventions and education in the electronic medical record, ensuring appropriate consent forms and authorizations are obtained for research and/or medical treatment. Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning. Maintains adequate supply stock on carts and in exam rooms; orders supplies and supplemental nursing materials. Maintains current customer service, clinical and technical skills through training programs and seminars to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Attends and participates in meetings related to clinical activities. Completes all necessary clinical documentation in a timely fashion. Duties may include one or more core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human‑subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human‑subjects research records. Performs other duties as assigned.
