Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings & weekends.

Job Summary: The Director of Veteran and Military Affairs oversees and administers all aspects of Veteran and Military Affairs (VMA). Ensures appropriate staff are hired and adequately trained, specifically in administering Veterans Administration Education Benefits. Identifies and integrates best practices from peer institutions to enhance services offered to the students in this population. Provides direct supervision for staff members and functional supervision over outside agency partners operating within the VMA office.

This position leads the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs in providing programming and services for UA military-affiliated students and their families, including the administration of Veterans Administration Education Benefits. Provides direct supervision for UA staff members as well as functional supervision over outside agency partners operating within the VMA office and oversees and manages a UA/VA Veterans Health Care Clinic located on campus. Collaborates, cooperates, and communicates with university departments, administration, as well as community, state, and national partners to enhance the services provided to military-affiliated students and their families. Ensures compliance with all related policies and regulations, recruiting military-affiliated students to the University, and various other duties related to this important student population. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Holds staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of experience working with veterans and/or military-affiliated students; OR master's degree and six (6) years of experience working with veterans and/or military-affiliated students. Must obtain clearance and be authorized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on a yearly basis to become and remain an active SCO (School Certifying Official).

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent leadership and management skills, including human, fiscal, and physical resources. Demonstrated skills and knowledge in building partnerships and collaborations across various entities, including campus departments and external agencies. Excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Veterans Administration Educational policies and practices, Veterans Administration Healthcare standards of service for a VA Community Care Clinic, Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding, Presidential Orders, and any other governmental guidelines or laws pertaining to military-affiliated students and their Education Benefits. Knowledge of VA Compliance Standards. Knowledge of student admission, academic, and financial aid policies and procedures. Knowledge of programs and services related to student transition, belonging, community, and success for military-affiliated students. Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in serving military-affiliated students within a collegiate setting. Experience leading people and complex teams.
