CDOC Part time Physician II MAT - Denver

Overview This is a part‑time position located in Denver, CO. The position requires 4 hours of work per week. The physician will collaborate with the Alcohol and Drug section of the Mental Health Division of the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) to provide comprehensive medication‑assisted treatment (MAT) for inmates with opioid use disorder (OUD). Eligibility Applicants may be residents or non‑residents of Colorado. A residency waiver has been granted for this announcement. Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications stated below. Benefits Distinctive career advancement opportunities throughout the state system Strong, secure, yet flexible retirement benefits including PERA Defined Benefit Plan, PERA Defined Contribution Plan, 401(K) and 457 plans Medical and dental health plans Paid life insurance Short and long‑term disability coverage 11 paid holidays per year plus vacation and sick time Employee wellness programs Tuition reimbursement Loan repayment and forgiveness programs Training opportunities and more Responsibilities Provide treatment to inmates with opioid use disorder (OUD) Perform and conduct medical histories, including substance use, psychiatric histories, and physical examinations relevant to OUD Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests and schedule regular visits for offenders according to their treatment needs; provide education on opioid use abuse and overdose risk Prescribe and adjust methadone, buprenorphine mono‑ and dual‑therapy, and naltrexone based on clinical needs Accountable for the work product of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, including supervision, consultation, education, and professional development Provide instruction, demonstration, and training to other health‑care professionals Provide medical advice to other organizational units or health‑care specialties through consultation regarding patients with OUD Ensure completion of all required computer data entry, referrals, consultations, medical reporting, and inmate grievance documentation in accordance with DOC regulations, policies, procedures, clinical standards, state statute, and medical directives Attend quarterly medical review board meetings, monthly physician round‑table meetings, and other division meetings Minimum Qualifications Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy Board‑eligible (completed residency) or board‑certified in one of the following specialties: emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or preventive medicine Special Qualifications Experience prescribing methadone as well as buprenorphine for OUD At least 1 year of experience in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry Board certification in primary medical specialty and in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry is preferred Required Competencies Ability to provide direct patient care to inmates Knowledgeable in full‑ spectrum primary care Skilled in office‑based procedures Ability to maintain professionalism in a complex environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders Ability to read and comprehend English Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English verbally and in writing Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines Self‑control, strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout Shift Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high‑stakes interaction Preferred Qualifications Experience providing medical care in a correctional environment Board certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Experience managing chronic medical conditions as a Physician Equal‑Opportunity Employment The State of Colorado believes that equity, diversity, and inclusion drive our success, and we encourage candidates from all identities, backgrounds, and abilities to apply.
