Overview ***$10,000 Sign ON Bonus 3yr commitment RN>1yr external applicants only*** Position Highlights: NT8-Pediatrics/PAC/PICU Number of beds on unit: 21 Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): Pediatrics/PAC/PICU is a 21-bed unit specializing in the care of the Pediatric (0-17) population. Levels of care for the unit include Pediatric Med/Surg, Pediatric Advanced Care, and Pediatric Intensive Care. Pediatric Med/Surg- Postop care, acute illness support, chronic illness management and teaching, failure to thrive care and education, hyperbilirubinemia PAC-High-flow oxygen requirements, frequent vital or other assessment monitoring PICU- Diabetic Ketoacidosis, complex multi-trauma, neurological injury patients, uncontrolled seizures, noninvasive and invasive ventilation support, shock requiring vasopressors, organ donation, and end-of-life care. Nurse to Patient ratio: PICU 1:1 or 1:2, Peds/PAC 1:3 or 1:4 Department culture and resources: NT8-Peds/PAC/PICU is a team-oriented unit, focused on close monitoring and escalation of care needs for all pediatric patients. We strive to provide thorough, multidisciplinary focused care, partnered with our Child Life Team, Pediatric Hospitalists and Intensivists, Pediatric Surgeons, Physical/Occupational/Speech Therapist, Pediatric Pharmacist, and Social workers. Our Pediatric Partnership Council meets monthly to access unit needs. We have two unit-based educators, a quality outcomes coordinator, a nurse supervisor, a nurse manager and several Unit Nurse Leaders. Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Peds/PAC: Foley/IV/NG/OG insertions, IV pumps, Syringe pumps, chest tubes, feeding pumps, lift equipment PICU: Continuous cardiac monitoring, arterial line/central lines, External Ventricular Drain (EVD)/Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring, Arctic Sun, Giraffe Beds. Commonly used IV drips: dexmedetomidine, midazolam, fentanyl, ketamine, insulin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin Qualifications License/Certifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA); Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Education: College Diploma in Nursing Other Knowledge/Skills: Responsibilities Performs all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and that is based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers, and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution.Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.Works collaboratively with Pediatric Intensivists and Pediatric Hospitalists in the care of the Pediatric ICU/ Pediatric Advanced Care patient and Pediatric Med/Surg patients Monitors intake and output of all pediatric patient assignment Changes dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVs Administers medications using proper bar code scanning Notifies appropriate provider with high alert lab results Severs as a mandated reports for all suspected abuse/neglect cases Ensures excellent communication with patients, families through meaningful hourly rounding, bedside report and whiteboard updates Collaborates with members of multidisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomees About Us Find it here. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $35.22per hour - $60.58per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.
