Part-Time Youth Soccer Field Supervisor

As a Part-Time Youth Soccer Field Supervisor, you'll help keep our youth soccer league running smoothly by preparing fields, supporting coaches and officials, answering questions from families, and helping games stay on schedule. You'll be the friendly face players, parents, and referees look to throughout the day while helping maintain a safe, welcoming environment where young athletes can learn, compete, and have fun. Every game day is different, and your organization, communication, and problem-solving skills will help create a positive experience for everyone involved. The City of Durango is a purpose-driven organization with more than 400 full-time and 300 part-time and seasonal employees across 15 departments, all working together to provide a wide range of services that keep our community running every day. At the city, we focus on continually improving how we work and serve the community. This effort is called the Trail to Excellence (T2E), and every employee plays a part in it. Whether you work outdoors, in an office, or lead a team, your daily efforts connect to the city's mission of providing excellent service and reaching the city's vision of being a multigenerational community that is authentic, diverse, engaged, thriving, and environmentally responsible. The full details of this vision are outlined in the city's strategic plan. As a member of our team, your work will be meaningful because:

  • Your ideas help shape citywide improvements.
  • The work you do ties directly into measurable goals.
  • You'll be part of a system that values collaboration, innovation, and results.

We're looking for team members who share our core values of teamwork, dependability, professionalism, service, respect, innovation, and wellbeing and who are excited to make a difference in the community we serve.

What You'll Do in This Role:

  • Prepare soccer fields before games by setting up goals, equipment, and any other materials needed for play.
  • Inspect fields and equipment before each game to help provide a safe environment for players, coaches, officials, and spectators.
  • Coordinate with coaches, referees, scorekeepers, volunteers, and other staff to keep games running on schedule.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, players, coaches, spectators, and officials by answering questions and providing information throughout the day.
  • Help create a welcoming, organized, and enjoyable experience for everyone attending youth soccer games.
  • Monitor player, coach, and spectator conduct and address concerns professionally while supporting the Parks and Recreation Department's expectations for sportsmanship.
  • Document incidents, accidents, or behavioral concerns and notify supervisors or emergency personnel when appropriate.
  • Assist with distributing and collecting program surveys and other program materials.
  • Clean up fields and equipment after games and return supplies to their designated locations.
  • Accurately record and submit time worked and complete required reports.

You Have:

  • The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with participants, families, coaches, officials, and coworkers.
  • CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, or the ability to obtain certification.
  • A general knowledge of soccer is preferred.
  • Experience working with the public, youth programs, sports, recreation, or customer service is preferred.

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Enjoy working with children, families, coaches, and community members in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
  • Stay organized and keep games running smoothly, even when schedules change.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently while providing excellent customer service.
  • Handle conflicts calmly, fairly, and professionally.
  • Can work independently while also collaborating with recreation staff and officials.
  • Take initiative and notice small details that help create a safe, enjoyable experience for participants.
  • Are comfortable working evenings, weekends, and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

What We Can Offer You:

  • Free pass to the Durango Community Recreation Center and Chapman Hill Ice Rink and Ski Area
  • Free Transit pass
  • Eligibility to participate in the City's Annual Wellness Challenge and a chance to receive prizes and cash rewards
