Controls Engineer

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, and support industrial control systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient automated processes. The Controls Engineer will lead PLC programming and control system integration efforts, collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and process teams, and participate in commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires a practical understanding of PLCs, controls, and automation technologies and a focus on delivering robust solutions that meet production, safety, and quality objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems to meet functional and safety requirements.
• Develop and maintain HMI/SCADA applications, including visualization, alarms, and data logging.
• Create control system architecture, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts in coordination with electrical designers.
• Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and support field commissioning and start-up activities.
• Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve control system issues during design, installation, and operation.
• Implement control strategies and process improvements to optimize equipment performance and reduce downtime.
• Produce clear technical documentation: functional specifications, control narratives, test plans, and as-built drawings.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, process, and maintenance) to ensure seamless integration and handover to operations.
• Ensure control systems comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in controls engineering, automation, or related roles.
• Proven experience programming PLCs (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and developing control logic.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA development and industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, OPC).
• Strong understanding of control theory, PID tuning, instrumentation, electrical schematics, and panel design.
• Demonstrated ability to perform commissioning, testing (FAT/SAT), and field troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with safety systems and standards (e.g., PLC-based safety, IEC 61508/61511, NFPA 70E) is preferred.
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills; ability to work in cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support as required.
• Experience with automation project lifecycle tools and version control; certification in PLC or industrial automation is a plus.
