Functional Safety Associate

SIS Silverstone, a Keystone affiliate partner, is a leading provider of functional safety consulting services to the refining, petrochemical, chemical, and energy industries. We are seeking a motivated Functional Safety Associate to join our growing team. This position provides an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers to develop expertise in ISA/IEC 61511 functional safety, process hazard analysis, and safety instrumented systems while working alongside experienced consultants. Position Type: Full-time Location: Houston, TX Physical Demands: Sedentary Travel Requirements: Occasional site visits Essential Functions Participate and/or scribe in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) / Layer Of Protection Analysis (LOPA) Support senior engineers in the evaluation of hazard analysis recommendations and the development of safety instrumented system (SIS) designs. Assist in the development of deliverables within all phases of the Safety Life-Cycle, including Safety Requirements Specification (SRS), SIL Verification Calculations, Proof Test Procedures, etc. Assist with Functional Safety Assessments (FSAs), including gathering and organizing engineering documentation from clients and project teams. Develop technical reports, calculations, and engineering documentation under the guidance of senior consultants. Review P&IDs, cause‑and‑effect diagrams, logic diagrams, and instrument data sheets. Support field verification activities and engineering surveys at client facilities. Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both engineering and non‑engineering audiences. Requirements B.S. in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program. 0-5 years of engineering‑related experience in the oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing industry preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Highly motivated self‑starter with strong organizational and problem‑solving skills. Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to evaluate complex technical information. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer. Experience Preferred Process Safety or Functional Safety Certification Familiarity with P&ID symbology and process design.
