School Marshal Beaumont School (Elementary/Middle)

School Marshal

To provide armed protection and ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors on school premises in accordance with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) School Marshal Program standards and district policies.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possess a valid driver's license and Firearm Owner's Identification Card.
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) School Marshal Certification
  • Successfully pass a fingerprint criminal background investigation, physical fitness examination, drug/alcohol screening, mental health evaluation, and firearms proficiency exam required.

Experience:

  • One to three years of experience in law enforcement, security, or a related field preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Maintain a strong, discreet presence on campus to deter and detect threats to student and staff safety.
  2. Monitor entry and exit points, patrol school grounds and facilities, and identify any unusual or suspicious behavior.
  3. Collaborate with school administration to evaluate safety vulnerabilities and implement appropriate security measures.
  4. Act immediately to neutralize any threat posing imminent harm, consistent with statutory authorization and use-of-force policies.
  5. Serve as the first line of defense in active shooter or life-threatening situations until law enforcement arrives.
  6. Participate in lockdowns, evacuations, and other emergency response protocols.
  7. Uphold the confidentiality of the marshal's identity as required by Texas Occupations Code.
  8. Store and carry a firearm only in accordance with Texas law and local policy; ensure access to weapon only when justified by circumstances.
  9. Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, board policies, and administrative regulations governing school marshals.
  10. Assist in the development and review of the school's emergency operations plan (EOP).
  11. Conduct or participate in regular emergency drills, including lockdown, fire, and active threat drills.
  12. Provide training to staff and students on emergency response procedures, when appropriate and authorized.
  13. Work closely with district police departments, School Resource Officers or local law enforcement agencies to coordinate safety efforts.
  14. Provide detailed information during investigations and assist in incident follow-ups when needed.
  15. Serve as a liaison between school officials and emergency responders during critical incidents.
  16. Monitor for behavioral indicators of potential violence or safety risks among students, staff, or visitors.
  17. Support threat assessment teams by sharing security observations and incident reports.
  18. Engage in prevention activities by building trust and visibility with students and staff without compromising the marshal's covert role.
  19. Maintain logs of patrols, incidents, and safety observations in accordance with district policy.
  20. Prepare and submit accurate reports on any safety breaches, criminal activity, or emergency responses.
  21. Document firearm proficiency training, psychological evaluations, and license renewals as required by TCOLE.
  22. Attend required continuing education and firearms training sessions to maintain TCOLE School Marshal certification.
  23. Stay informed of legislative updates, new safety protocols, and law enforcement best practices.
  24. Regularly review district safety policy updates and participate in relevant safety meetings or conferences.
  25. Serve as a role model of ethical behavior, professionalism, and responsible decision-making.
  26. Engage positively with students and staff to foster trust and reduce anxiety regarding campus security.
  27. Reinforce a culture of preparedness and safety without instilling fear or compromising the learning environment.
  28. Support school events and after-hours functions when needed to maintain a secure environment.
  29. Carry out other responsibilities related to security, law enforcement, or safety as designated by the Superintendent or Chief of Police.
  30. Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Administrative office environment, high pressure, fast pace, multiple deadlines, people intensive, frequent public contact, occasional out-of-district travel, extended days, and operation of a non-commercial vehicle.

About Bob Hope School: Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages.
