ASCP Medical Lab Technician

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately perform and verify routine and specialized laboratory tests with minimal supervision.
• Manage reagent preparation and analyzer troubleshooting efficiently.
• Conduct quality control procedures consistently, documenting any failures and corrective actions.
• Prioritize workload to meet testing requests promptly and maintain department productivity.
• Communicate critical results to healthcare providers promptly and document accordingly.
• Assist in training new staff and contribute to updating procedural manuals and policies.
• Perform ongoing assessments of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes, troubleshooting specimen issues as needed.

Education: An associate degree in Medical Technology or a related scientific field is required.

Experience: No prior experience is necessary for registered Medical Laboratory Technicians.

Certification: Certification or board eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician through recognized agencies such as ASCP, ISCLT, HHS, AMT, or NCA is required upon hire.

Mental and Physical Requirements: This position demands close mental and visual attention for extended periods and the ability to work under time-sensitive and stressful conditions. Physical activity includes frequent movement throughout the department and lab stations, with the ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions: The role involves regular exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious materials in a climate-controlled environment with moderate noise levels. Flexibility to work various shifts is necessary.
