Job Title: Mechanical & Robotics Technician Job Description

The Mechanical & Robotics Technician supports the operations maintenance team by repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment throughout the facility. In this role, you install, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of electromechanical and robotic systems to keep material handling operations running safely and efficiently. You also have the opportunity to mentor junior technicians, share best practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and standards.

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring accurate and complete documentation of all work performed.

• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components, to minimize downtime.

• Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment, ensuring reliable and efficient operation.

• Conduct predictive maintenance procedures to identify potential failures and address them before they impact operations.

• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to diagnose issues and guide repairs and installations.

• Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic principles to resolve basic input and output function problems on automated and robotic systems.

• Work with material handling equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer and safety standards.

• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record maintenance activities, track work orders, and support inventory management.

• Track, store, and manage department inventory of parts, tools, and supplies to ensure availability for maintenance tasks.

• Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship across the operations facility, supporting cross-functional teams as needed.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, supporting their technical development and adherence to safety and quality standards.

• Support and, where applicable, participate in project management activities related to equipment upgrades, installations, and process improvements.

• Travel up to approximately 20% of the time, as needed, to support maintenance activities at other locations.

• Move items weighing up to 49 pounds and stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Perform work that involves repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking in an industrial environment.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays.

• 1 year of experience using PCs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Industrial maintenance and equipment maintenance experience in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to lift parts and tools averaging 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds.

• Ability to perform repetitive motions, including bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking for extended periods.

• Strong eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity, including use of foot pedals, manual picking, pinching, holding, grasping, and repetitive wrist motion.

• Comfort working in conditions that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures (inside and outside), noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours, and wet or uneven surfaces.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in the mechanical or electrical field.

• 2 years of experience working with automated conveyor systems and controls.

• 2 years of experience repairing material handling equipment.

• 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.

• 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication.

• 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.

• 1 year of experience applying electrical and electronic principles in troubleshooting and repair.

• Experience working with material handling equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer and safety requirements.

• Project management experience related to maintenance, installations, or equipment upgrades.

• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for work order and asset management.

• Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance.

• Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions on automated systems.

Work Environment

You work in a dynamic industrial operations facility focused on automated packaging, distribution, and material handling systems. The environment includes conveyor systems, pneumatic equipment, robotic and electromechanical devices, and a range of material handling machinery managed through a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Shifts may last up to 12 hours and can include weekends, nights, and holidays, requiring extended periods of standing and walking on concrete surfaces. The work involves repetitive physical movements such as bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and manual handling of parts and tools. You may work in small or confined spaces and be exposed to dust, fumes or odors, varying temperatures both indoors and outdoors, noise, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces. The role emphasizes strict adherence to safety procedures and standards, with appropriate work attire suited to an industrial maintenance setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bondurant, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $34.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
