Skorpios is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to lead the design and assembly of high precision components and tools in support of the manufacture of high-data rate optical networking products. The successful candidate will join our highly talented engineering team in Temecula, Ca.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Design mechanical components and fixtures with very tight tolerances in support of sub-micron precision pick & place tools, optical alignment tools and optical test sets.
- Design and build components, fixtures and test stations in test requiring precision temperature control
- Mechanical design targeting highly constrained size and weight components
- Create detailed 3D drawings of high precision components in SolidWorks that enhance capabilities of existing manufacturing, test and burn-in tools
- Recommend materials selection for the machined parts
- Rapid creation of prototype parts
- Mechanical assembly and prove-in of new fixtures and tools
- Collaborate with local and overseas machine shops for parts fabrication
Education:
- Bachelors or higher degree in mechanical engineering
Experience:
- Minimum 10+ years of experience designing & testing high precision fixtures and tools
- 5+ years of experience in SolidWorks
- Familiar with fiber optics products and working with optical fibers
- Experience in sub-micron optical alignment of lasers and fibers
- Experience with wide range of epoxies
- Thorough understanding of materials and their effects on component performance
- This is a lead role and requires someone who is highly motivated and a team-player. Must be able to share knowledge, work collaboratively, and support other groups within the organization
