MAIN JOB OBJECTIVE

The Associate Manager, Packaging Development will support the growth of the brand by developing and implementing innovative packaging solutions across gifting, limited-edition programs, and sampling initiatives. This includes the development of gift sets, GWP, sampling formats, and supporting collateral, with an overall focus on elevating the gifting experience and bringing the brand’s sensorial and distinctive point of view to life through packaging. Reporting to the Vice President, Product Innovation, the Associate Manager will work cross-functionally with global partners across Marketing, Product Development, Packaging Design, and Operations, while serving as a key point of contact for external packaging vendors and suppliers.

With a passion for innovative and sustainable packaging, the Associate Manager will bring strong project management skills, attention to detail, and a solution-oriented mindset to deliver high-quality packaging programs from concept through execution.

Job Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the development and qualification of packaging solutions for gifting, limited-edition, and sampling initiatives, balancing brand aesthetics, consumer experience, functionality, manufacturability, quality, sustainability, cost, and market requirements.
• Partner closely with Packaging Design, Marketing, Product Innovation, Purchasing, and Operations to translate creative concepts into distinctive, feasible, and commercially viable packaging experiences.
• Drive packaging development from concept through execution, including design generation, prototypes, engineering specifications, tooling and mold qualification, functionality and quality testing, and set assembly.
• Own technical milestones within project timelines, proactively identifying, communicating, and resolving cross-functional roadblocks to ensure successful execution.
• Bring new ideas and packaging innovation to gifting and sampling, partnering with external vendors to explore new formats, materials, constructions, technologies, and sustainable solutions that elevate the Fresh experience.
• Manage external packaging vendors and suppliers, building strong partnerships to develop technical solutions, troubleshoot challenges, and stay informed of emerging capabilities and innovations.
• Create and maintain package component specifications, pre-Bills-of-Materials, Fill & Assembly specifications, and quality control requirements.
• Collaborate with Design to ensure packaging color development, decoration, artwork, and proofs meet creative expectations while remaining within technical and manufacturing constraints.
• Conduct and oversee packaging testing, including transit, functionality, and homologation testing, to ensure packages meet quality, performance, and market requirements.
• Attend and support set assembly and manufacturing start-ups as needed, ensuring proper execution of design, function, quality, and overall consumer experience.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across suppliers, manufacturing, distribution, and quality, escalating issues and driving solutions to completion.
• Support engineering changes, quality investigations, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency initiatives as needed.
• Champion sustainable packaging solutions by identifying opportunities to improve materials, constructions, and processes in partnership with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

What you will learn in the first 6 months:

• Build a strong understanding of Fresh procedures and processes across Gifting, New Product Development, and ECRs (Engineering Change Requests).
• Develop a deep understanding of key packaging development deliverables and milestones, working closely with the broader Packaging Development team to support successful launches.
• Build strong relationships with cross-functional Fresh teams, internal LVMH partners, and external packaging vendors. Develop technical expertise in gifting packaging, including transit and homologation testing, key technical requirements, and best practices for construction and execution.

What you will achieve in 12 months:

• Elevate Fresh’s gifting experience by partnering closely with Packaging Design and Purchasing to translate creative concepts into distinctive, innovative, and commercially viable packaging solutions.
• Drive the development of new gifting and sampling formats, bringing forward fresh ideas, materials, constructions, and experiences that strengthen the brand’s point of view.
• Build strong partnerships with preferred vendors to stay ahead of emerging packaging capabilities, sustainable solutions, innovations, and industry trends.
• Champion innovative and sustainable packaging opportunities, sharing new ideas and capabilities with cross-functional partners and helping shape the future of Fresh gifting.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position on average of 7.5 hours/day.
• Light to moderate lifting may be required.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, and operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard.

Qualifications

PROFILE

• BS/BA degree in Package Engineering/Technology/Science or related engineering field
• Minimum 3 years relevant experience in Packaging Development (preferred in Gifting)
• Demonstrated broad and in-depth knowledge of packaging materials and processes
• Demonstrated success of excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with internal partners and external vendors
• Self-motivated and self-disciplined individual, able to work in relative autonomy
• Proficient PC skills - MS Office software and capable of building presentations on Excel and/or PowerPoint.
• CAD literacy is a plus

The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $105,000 USD.

This role is based in Jersey City, NJ.
